Citizen Science
Elementary, middle, and high school students have the chance to contribute to the scientific research conducted within Great Smoky Mountains National Park through our citizen science program. Tremont embraces citizen science—the involvement of non-scientists in scientific research—as another tool to connect people with nature.
School groups and volunteers can participate in a wide variety of research projects. The resulting data is shared with collaborating scientists and park resource managers, as well as the general public through our web site. Much of our work contributes to the All-Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI) in the Smokies, a long-term project aimed at documenting all of the species in the national park.

We’re really excited about our new phenology project. It’s one of the first projects of it’s kind in the southeast, and our students are doing it all! Click here for information on Tremont's Phenology Project.
