Educator Workshops

Educator WorkshopsAs educators, you look for ways to share knowledge with students in ways that will help them remember and utilize that knowledge. Educator workshops are a resource for you - get new ideas, boost your excitement about the coming year, and see a different approach to the average science class. And why not do all that in the mountains?

After attending one of these programs, when you bring your school group you will qualify to come free and your students will get $8 off the price of a three day or longer experience.

Teacher Escape Weekends
Where new teachers get oriented to our classes, facility, cooperative teaching, and staff. Veteran teachers help orient new teachers, and give us feedback on our programs, etc.

All teachers will get a chance to:
• plan their trips (mini teacher retreat!),
• network with other teachers,
• learn about and see new programs, and
• let their hair down socializing and enjoying this place before their student trip.

We love Teacher Escape Weekends because they help us stay connected with teachers and improve our programs. They are our check to make sure we remain relevant and responsive to teacher needs.

If you're unsure about whether or not Tremont is right for your school group, Teacher Escape Weekends are a great low cost way to experience our programs, see our facilities, meet staff and take suggestions from other teachers.

Price: $50

Weekend Workshops (e.g. Climate Change, Advanced Air Quality, Lichens)
Weekend workshops are focused on Middle and High School science teachers. They are short sessions packed full of expert content knowledge, field experience, and ways to tie the subject matter to their classrooms. If you want to deepen your knowledge of a specific subject for the upcoming school year, this is the weekend to do it. You'll get lots of resources, great networking with like-minded teachers, and hands-on experiences that make the subject matter come to life.

Funding for us to present these workshops is provided by community organizations, so we are able to offer these to you at the low cost of $50 per weekend.

February 17-19, 2012 - Likin' Lichens Teacher Workshop

November 2-4, 2012 - Climate Change Teacher Workshop

Smoky Mountains Science Teacher Institute - A Week-Long Experience
Targeted again at Middle and High School science teachers
Content: related to biodiversity, field studies, expert content knowledge, scientists. Teachers will meet scientists and take part in studies in the field in the Smokies. Emphasis on how to do real science with students in the school yard.
Price: we don’t do these without funding, so for most teachers, these only cost $50.
