Tremont Policies and Guidelines
We feel these rules are necessary to effectively operate the center and to ensure a safe and pleasant stay.
- Adults and students staying at the center must be covered for both accident and illness by Group Health Insurance.
- Registration forms for each participant, including adults, must be on site. Tremont needs to retain a copy from each participant when you leave.
- A vehicle for emergency use must be provided by each group.
- Teachers and chaperones are responsible for proper supervision of students at all times.
- Swimming is allowed only under the supervision of a certified lifeguard. Shoes must be worn at all times.
- Food, gum, and candy are prohibited in the dorm.
- Only GSMIT personnel are allowed into the kitchen.
- Smoking is highly discouraged. Tremont is working to become a smoke free campus. Please contact us for current smoking policy. No smoking is permitted in buildings or on the trails.
- Alcoholic beverages are prohibited during youth programs.
- Each group is responsible for keeping their area clean.
- Phones are for adult use. If a child must call home he/she should be supervised. A calling card is needed for all calls outside of emergency calls or local calls.
- Cell phones do not get reception on Tremont’s campus. Phone cards are necessary for long distance calls.
- Quiet time in the dormitory is 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Please consult other groups in the residence to alter these hours.
- Please see program coordinator for vehicle parking. This is usually in the small lot below the dining hall. Fire regulations prohibit parked vehicles on the gravel drives next to the dorm and dining hall.
- Medicines are to be stored in the fi rst aid room and distributed by one person from the school.
- Free time/running games should be played on Dorsey Field or the blacktop area, not by the dormitory.
HEALTH, SAFETY, & EMERGENCY CARE
Your group must have a completed Registration Form for each participant, including adults. We need to retain a copy of each form for our records. If you need to bring the forms back with you, please make copies before you arrive here. Forms are kept in the first aid room, so everyone knows where they are.
First aid and emergency care at Tremont might occur on the trail, or in the First Aid Room. Tremont staff are certifi ed, at minimum, in First Aid and CPR, but most of our teaching staff are Wilderness First Responders.
First aid kits are required on all hikes and off-site trips. We suggest that each school place an adult in charge of health care. This person can help determine any first aid supplies brought by the school. He or she also needs to collect all medications, store it securely, and supervise its distribution.
Please inform our staff of any accident or emergency as soon as possible. If anyone needs medical attention, the group should work with Tremont staff to ensure that proper procedures are followed. If necessary we will work with the National Park Service to handle an emergency. A first aid room is available for all groups with a refrigerator, basic supplies and equipment, and sleeping area adjacent to the dining hall.
