Seasonal Teacher/Naturalist
Description: This is an excellent opportunity to work with a caring team of educators while living in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Assist in all aspects of implementing residential environmental education program including teaching daily classes mostly with youth and occasionally with adults, conducting evening programs, planning and implementing programs, and assisting in overall center operations.
Qualifications: Applicants must be enthusiastic, energetic, and committed. Must have experience and training in natural history, and working with both children and adults. Residential experience preferred.
Responsibilities: Work in all aspects of implementing year-round and summer residential environmental education program for youth including: develop and teach daily natural history activities; conduct evening programs; co-lead backpacking trips; supervise campers in the lodge (2-3 nights per week during summer only), and other related environmental education activities. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in related field required. Wilderness First Responder and CPR training highly desired. Teaching, hiking and trip-leading experience desirable. Seeking applicants that want to commit for at least nine months.
Salary & Benefits: Starting salary $300.00 per week + meals and lodging. On-site housing required with monthly utilities paid by Institute (exception of phone). Six month position with three weeks unpaid furlough. There is a potential for contract renewal for September-November.
Deadline: December 15, 2008. Position runs mid-February through mid-August, 2009, with potential through November, 2009.
