Types of Financial Aid

Summer Camp Financial Aid
Money, or lack of it, should never stand in the way of a life-changing summer experience. We are pleased to be able to offer financial aid to any child who needs a little extra help to make summer camp in the Smokies a reality. Each year we offer money to dozens of campers making it possible for them to go backpacking, explore a forest habitat, or catch a salamander in the creek during one of Tremont’s summer programs. All applications for financial aid are screened and ranked by a team of our program staff. We look for desire of the student to come to camp, their interest in contributing in a positive way to the camp, and their overall financial need. Summer camp financial aid deadline is typically in March and has already passed for this year.

To apply for summer camp financial aid, complete this form and mail it in with your summer camp registration.

School Group Financial Aid
Tremont is proud to offer a variety of ways for you to reduce the overall cost of your trip. Group cost can be reduced when teachers attend a qualifying workshop such as Teacher Escape Weekend. By attending a workshop, you will qualify to come free when your school group comes and your students will get a reduced rate on a three day or longer experience.

Lead teachers should complete the Group Financial Aid Application and return it to Tremont 6 weeks before scheduled trip. After we receive this form the lead teacher will receive an email indicating the maximum amount of aid we can grant based upon three factors: (a) your total request; (b) the effort you have made at raising the funds; and (c) the needs of your students.

Parents of students requesting financial aid should complete the Student Financial Aid Application and return it to their lead teacher so that information can be used in the Group Financial Aid Application.

Science Seekers
Teachers who bring their schools to Tremont have another way of connecting their students to Tremont Scholarships through the Science Seeker program. Depending on school size, Tremont teachers are encouraged to nominate up to 4 students that have a special aptitude for science as Science Seekers. These students are eligible for a $300 scholarship to one of our signature weeklong summer programs, Discovery Camp. Teachers will be contacted in January for their nominations (deadline is usually the end of January), and we will send a packet to them to give their students by early March to let them know they have been awarded these scholarships. Questions? Contact Logan Rosenberg at logan@gsmit.org or 865-448-6709, ext. 16.

Wilderness First Responder Course Scholarships
Financial Aid is available through the Louise Barber Endowment. To apply, send a letter along with your registration form stating how you will benefit from the course, why you need financial assistance, and the amount you are requesting. Special consideration is given to those who work with young people.
