Rich Mountain Hike Offers Views and Fall Foliage
(Great Smoky Mountains) –Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont’s Fall Hike to Rich Mountain will take place Saturday, October 25th from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Led by Tremont naturalist Mary Silver, the hike is one of many organized each year by Legacy of Tremont, a group of volunteers who help heighten public awareness and support Tremont in the community-at-large.
Silver will lead the group 1,766 feet up the side of Rich Mountain, passing beautiful views of Cades Cove along the way. Considered moderate to strenuous in difficulty, this 7.5 mile hike promises fantastic scenery as you cross streams and view the forest at the peak of fall color. On the way back down you’ll stop at the historic John Oliver Cabin for a bit of exploring.
The cost of this hike is $15 per person, and hikers should meet at the Cades Cove entrance parking lot at 8 a.m. and bring water and lunch. Call (865) 448-6709 or e-mail mail@gsmit.org for more information or to register. For a calendar and full descriptions of upcoming Tremont programs visit www.gsmit.org.
