Solar Array Among the Projects for Tremont's Volunteer Work Day
(Great Smoky Mountains National Park) – Friends of Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont will join Tremont’s staff on November 8, 2008, for a day of fun, rewarding work projects around campus.
Volunteer Work Day is a standing tradition at Tremont. Volunteers arrive at 9:00 am to help Tremont staff with a number of projects, and are treated to a tasty lunch as thanks for their efforts. Traditional Volunteer Work Day projects include mulching pathways, cleaning windows and clearing overgrowth. Some of this year’s volunteers will also be helping with the beginning construction of a solar array, a project made possible by a grant from the ALCOA Foundation. Tremont’s staff is particularly excited about this project.
“We’re thrilled to be building the array, of course,” says Jen Martin, Tremont’s School Programs Coordinator, “and the fact that the community can be a part of that experience with us makes this Work Day especially exciting.”
Volunteers of all ages and ability levels are welcome, and anyone who arrives with a willingness to work will leave with a sense of accomplishment and a full stomach. Those interested in joining Tremont for Volunteer Work Day should call 448-6709 or e-mail mail@gsmit.org to reserve a spot for lunch.
Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of providing in-depth experiences through residential educational programs designed to nurture appreciation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, celebrate diversity, and foster stewardship. Tremont welcomes all ages to step away from their daily routine to learn, reflect and grow while living in the heart of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
