Tremont Announces Home Educators’ December Days
In Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Calling all Home Schoolers! Bring your kids to Tremont Tuesday, December 6th and Thursday, December 8th for fun and learning in Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
For students age 8 and up, these two daylong programs led by Tremont teacher/naturalists explore the cultural and natural history of the Smokies.
Join other home schoolers at Tremont and spend the day living and learning in the world’s best outdoor classroom, the 500 thousand acres of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Classes for Tuesday, December 6th:
The Forest in Winter: Students will learn about the strategies animals use to survive the winter, look for signs of animals, and learn to identify trees without their leaves.
Creative Expressions: Students will sharpen their observation skills and learn to express their feelings about the natural world in different ways.
Classes for Thursday, December 8th:
Wilderness Navigation: Students will learn how to use maps and landmarks to find their way around the Tremont campus and on a forest course.
Explorations: Students will decide what early explorers needed for a trip to the wilderness and will build a survival shelter.
Each day beings at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. Classes will be held rain or shine and students will be outside most of the day. Participants should be able to walk up to four miles over uneven terrain.
Participants will need a backpack, water bottle, extra layers of clothing, gloves or mittens, a warm hat, rain gear, good walking shoes, and bring a sack lunch.
Pre-registration is required. Participants should register by Monday, November 28th. For more information on December Days call (865) 448-6709.
