Appalachian Celebration     July 13, 7PM

Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center Amphitheater

Appalachian Celebration Spark Summer Entertainment Lists

Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont and Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center are presenting the second annual Appalachian Celebration, July 13, 2007 at 7PM.

Tremont and The Heritage Center invite the East Tennessee community and visitors to join us for a celebration of southern Appalachian music, tales and folklore from some of east Tennessee's brightest entertainers.

The Woodpickers, will share early Appalachian tunes and ballads made with traditional instruments like the clawhammer banjo, mandolin, and hammer dulcimer.  Charles W. Maynard, outstanding stoyteller, speaker, and author.  Charles will bring to stage a rich presence of Americana. His presentation of historic people and American culture through stories, gives us a view of one of Appalachia's favorite pastimes. Charles delights young and old alike with legendary mountain tales. His presentation of southern Appalachian culture crosses many threads of mountain living and what it was like to raise a family in the rugged mountains of the 1800's.

"The evening is special to everyone because we can all identify with our heritage in one fashion or another" states Amber Parker, Tremont program director and coordinator for the event. "We get a quick glimpse into the past and learn to appreciate the ways that the people of Southern Appalachia celebrated life through song and story."  This is a wonderful event for the entire family.  We hope everyone can attend."

Appalachian Celebration is held in The Heritage Center's amphitheater, beginning at 7PM. Admission is $5, children 12 and under are free.
