FrogWatch is a nationwide citizen monitoring program that
involves listening for frogs in wetlands and
other froggy habitats. We have been conducting FrogWatch surveys at several sites in Cades Cove. Students spend an hour learning to recognize the calls of frogs in the Smokies, and then travel to Cades Cove for an after-dark survey. At each of 3-5 survey stops, they listen carefully for 3 minutes and record all species heard. Some frog surveys also may be possible along Tremont Road; comparisons may be made between the two locations.
