Volunteer at Tremont

Volunteers are essential to the operations at Tremont, and we are so thankful for those who chose to dedicate their time to our work. If you want to support our mission of connecting people to nature, or you simply want a volunteer opportunity that allows you to spend more time in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, we’d love to put your skills to use. Explore our current volunteer needs below, and follow the links in the opportunity descriptions to sign up.

All volunteers must complete a volunteer application prior to their first volunteer shift. If you are interested in an opportunity below, be sure you have filled out the volunteer application before reaching out to our project coordinators and/or signing up!

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Support our work by volunteering to run a Tremont table at the Townsend Fall Heritage Festival. There, you’ll challenge kids to take the Level Up Challenge, share our mission with adults, and help all attendees discover their connection to the natural world. (Don’t worry – we’ll make sure you feel comfortable representing Tremont before you head out!)

We still need a couple of volunteers on Saturday, September 27. Sign up for a shift: 9am-1pm, or 1pm-6pm.

If you’re interested in helping or want to be notified when new events are added, please email Erin.

We need volunteers to help make our annual Homecoming event come to life. As a token of our appreciation, volunteers are invited to attend the event at no cost.

  • 1-4pm – Pre-event setup
  • 4:30-8 – Support event needs
  • 8-end of night – Help with cleanup

Interested? Contact Megan.

Volunteer Workday is a long-standing tradition at Tremont Institute. Volunteers arrive at 9 am and spend the day helping Tremont with a variety of projects on campus.  At the end of the day, you’ll be treated to a hearty lunch for your efforts.

Tasks for the day include:

  • Preparing Tent Village for colder months
  • Cleaning leaves from ditches
  • Other miscellaneous sprucing up of our facilities!

Volunteers of all ages and ability levels are welcome. Bring your willingness to work and we’ll make sure you leave with a sense of accomplishment and a full stomach!

Participation is free, though registration is required. Register here!

For Current Volunteers

Thank you so much for spending your time with us! To help with our record-keeping and grant funding, it is essential that you log all hours that you volunteer at Tremont. Please input hours after each volunteer activity. Fill out a separate form for each member of your volunteer party, including for younger family members.

We are so grateful for the time and dedication our volunteers contribute to helping us achieve our mission of connecting people to nature. As a small token of our immense gratitude, we offer incentives to volunteers as they reach certain milestones.

Volunteers are responsible for tracking their hours! Questions about the program? Contact us!
